The Household Gods, John William Waterhouse
The turning point scene is what we refer to as "The Doorway into the Problem."
a) Once you reached that doorway, is it not likely that you were "locked in," as it were? Please explain.
b) Could you say, then, that you were no longer in control and that the momentum of the problem carried you on through it?
c) Study the scenes you have just described, reflect on each, and consider something quite curious: in what way can you say that not only are you "locked in" and experience a sense of some force, or momentum, carrying you along, but that you also seem to be ignoring the fact that you have done this before? Is this state one in which you can easily forget what you know and so, act in a state of forgetfulness?
